2019 Toyota Camry

When searching for a dependable midsize car near San Diego, Kearny Mesa, and El Cajon, many drivers look for lots of safety features, a roomy interior, and good fuel economy. These characteristics could describe many vehicles, including the Toyota Camry vs. Nissan Altima. But which one would be right for you?

To help answer that question, our team at Norm Reeves Toyota San Diego created this 2019 Toyota Camry vs. 2019 Nissan Altima comparison. Read all about these vehicles below, and contact us if you have any questions.

Advanced Safety Features

2019 Toyota CamryThe Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima are known for their reliability, especially in emergency situations. For example, if you were to get into an accident, these cars will help protect you through an advanced airbag system that includes front, side-impact, and side curtain airbags. The Camry even includes knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, for further protection.

However, to help prevent an accident from occurring, these cars offer many driver-assisting technologies.

For example, the Camry comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense™ P. You’ll find many features in this suite, including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. If it determines an avoidable collision with a vehicle or pedestrian, it can automatically apply the brakes for you.

There’s also Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: Set a distance from the vehicle in front of you, and this system will maintain it, regardless of how slow traffic is going. There are similar driver-assisting technologies in the Altima. Unfortunately, they don’t all come standard.

Interior Space & Amenities

2019 Toyota Camry InteriorThere’s plenty of space for five passengers in the 2019 Camry and 2019 Altima, especially in the back seat. The Camry has 38 inches of rear headroom and legroom. However, the Altima, while still spacious, has 36.9 inches of rear headroom and 35.2 inches of rear legroom.

But they both offer lots of amenities to help keep you comfortable, including leather-trimmed heated front seats. They also each offer an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, to get in that perfect position behind the wheel.

Media & Connectivity Features

The Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima each include intuitive dashboard-mounted touchscreens that the respective drivers can use to select their media options or communicate with their friends or family through the Bluetooth® system. The Camry touchscreen, the Entune™ 3.0 system, includes advanced voice recognition, which allows you to select your media options through voice commands. The Nissan Altima does offer voice recognition, but as an optional upgrade.

2019 Toyota Camry TechnologyEach sedan includes the standard AM/FM radio, but they’re also equipped with both USB and auxiliary inputs to connect portable media devices to the respective sound systems, as well as Bluetooth® streaming. The Toyota Camry even includes the Wi-Fi Connect®, which connects you to the web and Wi-Fi from the road.

The Camry and Altima also feature Apple CarPlay®. This feature helps to integrate your smartphone into the vehicle’s touchscreen. It saves you from having to access your phone’s apps, contacts, or media library from your phone when you can simply access those features through the dashboard-mounted touchscreen.

Performance Specs

The Toyota Camry comes standard with a peppy and fuel-efficient 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It also helps the vehicle achieve an EPA-estimated 29 city/41 highway MPG.*

In comparison, the Nissan Altima comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder that puts out 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle isn’t as fuel-efficient, either, as it achieves an EPA-estimated 26 city/36 highway MPG.

2019 Toyota Camry Black

Both of these sleek sedans offer additional engine options for drivers looking for more of a punch with their performance. The Camry offers the 3.5-liter V6 engine, which can produce a remarkable 301 horsepower. The Altima offers an optional 2.0-liter VC Turbo™ engine, which can deliver 248 horsepower. Additionally, the Camry also offers an optional 2.5-liter Hybrid 4-cylinder engine, which gives the Camry a remarkable versatility that’s not found with the Nissan Altima and its engine selections.

The Camry also has three distinct drive modes, to give you more control on the road…

While the Altima gives a steady performance, it doesn’t offer different driving modes that can help boost your speed, or your eco-friendly driving.

Sedan Style & Appearance

2019 Toyota Camry

Both the Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima offer their drivers a stylish exterior. Each vehicle includes a refined front fascia and grille with smooth yet accented curves from the hood to the tail. The Camry includes a smoother appearance with subtle performance-based aesthetics throughout the body. The Nissan Altima has sharper edges, which can appear a little box-like and rigid.

However, one of the major differences between these two vehicles is options. The Toyota Camry offers an altered look for its sport-centric SE and XSE trims. These versions swap out the grille to include a sport mesh rather than the vented grille found on the other varying trims. The Nissan Altima, on the other hand, only includes its one style, which has its flaws—mainly with the rigid and less defined grille located in front. When viewing the Camry vs. Altima on the road, there’s no doubt of which one will catch your eye.
