Vehicle Comparisons:
Toyota RAV4 vs Ford Escape

Car shoppers in San Diego, Kearny Mesa, and El Cajon who are looking for a compact crossover vehicle to meet their transportation needs may be familiar with the 2018 Toyota RAV4 and 2018 Ford Escape. They are both powerful, reliable, high-performing vehicles in the segment. Still, when you put them head to head, which will better fit your lifestyle?

Our team at Norm Reeves Toyota San Diego wants to help you make that decision. That’s why we’ve put together this car comparison between the Toyota RAV4 vs. Ford Escape. In it, we’ll examine the features we think you care about most.

Toyota RAV4 vs Ford Escape: Performance Specs

The standard 2018 RAV4 combines a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission to produce 176 horsepower for a ride that can seamlessly accelerate to highway speeds and handle steep climbs.

The 2018 Escape is also a 6-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting, but its 1.5L engine packs less of a punch with just 168 horsepower. Both vehicles have strong fuel efficiencies. However, the RAV4 again slips ahead, with an EPA-estimated 23 city/30 highway MPG1, compared to the Escape’s EPA-estimated 21 city/29 highway MPG. Drivers of the RAV4 can enjoy stopping less often to refuel.

Premium Infotainment Features

The Toyota RAV4 comes standard with Entune™ audio systems, including a 6.1-inch touchscreen display that will let you navigate your compatible smartphone hands-free and listen to your music library. In a similar way, the Ford Escape’s SYNC® entertainment system will let you stream content on your phone, compile a personalized playlist, and make calls without having to hold your device.

The RAV4’s infotainment system blends well into the upper dashboard. It fits snugly between driver and passenger air vents for a fluid, polished feel. The Escape’s, despite its excellent features, isn’t integrated quite as well. The dashboard doesn’t conserve space and, as a result, feels a bit dated, looking far busier and less sleek than its competitor’s.

Toyota RAV4 vs Ford Escape Interior

When it comes to storage space, both vehicles have plenty of room to offer. The 2018 Ford Escape provides up to 34 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats, but with the rear seats folded up, you’ll get 68 cubic feet for storage. An available foot-activated liftgate should make packing even easier when you’ve got your hands full.

That’s impressive, but the 2018 Toyota RAV4 is even more efficient with its space, offering a max of 38.4 cubic feet behind its second-row seats and a massive 73.4 cubic feet when those seats are folded up.

You’ll have room to store and rearrange everything from luggage and groceries to sports gear and more.

2018 Toyota RAV4 vs 2018 Ford Escape: Which Will You Choose?

The 2018 Toyota RAV4 and 2018 Ford Escape are both reliable SUVs that’ll meet your family’s traveling needs. However, we think drivers near San Diego, Kearny Mesa, and El Cajon will appreciate the RAV4’s powerful yet economical performance and modern design features.
