Vehicle Comparisons:
Toyota Tundra vs Chevrolet Silverado

If there’s one thing that we know about the drivers in San Diego, Kearny Mesa, El Cajon, and the other surrounding California communities, it’s that they like to work; and, not only do they like to work, but they like to work hard. Therefore, they need a truck that’s just as incredibly hardworking as they are.

That’s where the 2018 Toyota Tundra and the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado come into play. We wrote this truck comparison, so you can get a better sense of which model is right for your lifestyle.

Toyota Tundra vs Chevrolet Silverado: Specs

We’ll kick things off with a side-by-side take on the engine capabilities of both the Toyota Tundra and the Chevy Silverado. We must say, things are looking up for the Tundra rather than the Silverado.

Toyota’s pickup lets you choose between two different engine options. First, there’s the state-of-the-art i-FORCE 4.6L V8 engine. This thing slams home up to 310 horsepower and up to 327 lb-ft of torque, all while providing efficient power delivery (courtesy of Independent Variable Valve Timing).

Next, there’s Toyota’s top-of-the-line i-Force 5.7L V8 engine. This powerplant kicks things up even further with as much as 381 horsepower and as much as 401 lb-ft of torque, as well as a DOHC design.

On the other hand, the engines for Chevy’s pickup are comparatively lackluster. We’re talking about a 4.3L V6 Engine that just squeaks out 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque.

2018 Toyota Tundra vs 2018 Chevy Silverado: Towing

The bottom line is that the 2018 Toyota Tundra is the working man’s dream—or the working woman’s dream, for that matter! When you equip it with the 5.7L V8 engine, it lets you tow well above 10,000 pounds. It’s also engineered with a special TOW/HAUL Mode function, a secure and high-tech 4- or 7-pin connector, and an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller with Trailer-Sway Control.

The 2018 Chevy Silverado? Well, not so much. When you equip it with the 4.3L V6 engine that we also mentioned above, it sports a maximum towing capacity of merely 7,600 pounds.

2018 Tundra: It’s Got a Bit of Style, Too…

In addition to all the engine capabilities and towing/hauling systems that we outlined above, the 2018 Toyota Tundra is known for its attractive exterior style. In fact, in terms of paint jobs, you can decide on either Blazing Blue Pearl, Cavalry Blue, Midnight Black Metallic, Smoked Mesquite, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Cement, Silver Sky Metallic, Super White, Barcelona Red Metallic, Inferno, or Quicksand. Unfortunately, the 2018 Chevy Silverado’s more standard colors don’t pop.
