Father’s Day is fast-approaching, and as June 16 inches closer, many appreciative and affectionate sons and daughters are looking for something unique and thoughtful for their dads—rather than the traditional breakfast in bed or a family meal at a neighborhood restaurant.
San Diego is a lively area blessed with ocean views and beautiful weather, and with a diverse assortment of Father’s Day offerings, we’d like to offer some suggestions.
Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar
There’s nothing like a thick and juicy steak to set the tone for a great Father’s Day. When the day comes, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar would be the perfect venue for dad to include in some red meat. Of course, there are plenty of great non-steak starters like the Chilled Seafood Tower or Seared Pork Belly to try before working your way to the main course. Whether your dad prefers his steak bone-in or -out, he’ll certainly enjoy the selection of cuts, from the Petite Filet Mignon to the Prime Tomahawk.
There’s nothing like a celebratory dinner of seafood, but you’ll want to go to the right spot for Father’s Day. Herringbone in La Jolla is one of the top spots for fresh fish and great eats. Start off with some selections from the Oyster Bar, with options from all around the world! When it’s time for dinner, there’s plenty of shareables like the Wood-Fired Flatbreads or Ceviche. But, if your dad’s the type that loves a big and satisfying meal, he may want to indulge in the Stone Crab Cakes, Lamb Lollipops, or even the Wild Prawns. Check out the selection on Facebook!
The Lodge at Torrey Pines
Whether your dad wants to get 18 holes in before dinner or not, The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a great place to head out to for dad’s special day. Whether or not you hit the links, you’ll certainly find the menu suitable for the big dinner. They have plenty of impressive appetizers, with Charcuterie selections, as well as sophisticated soups and salads. For the big dinner though, you’ll want to splurge on some of the mouthwatering options like the 28-Day Dry Aged Prime Rib Eye Steak, Braised Veal Cheeks, or even Caramelized Sea Scallops. There are plenty of great options that dad will love! Check their Facebook page for Father’s Day updates or specials.
Sbicca Del Mar
For the traditionally inclined dad, nothing can be more satisfying than an excellent meal in a good restaurant, accompanied by family. And San Diego has no shortage of excellent choices for the traditional Father’s Day brunch. Sbicca Del Mar is an excellent option, located on the ocean with beautiful views and great food.
Father’s Day Beer n’ Brats
If dad enjoys sharing a meal with family, he may enjoy the added adventure of a cruise around San Diego harbor. The Father’s Day Beer n’ Brats Brunch Cruise offers two hours of seagoing fun, accompanied by a gourmet buffet with a chilled seafood station, as well as an endless supply of beer and brats, all to the tune of live music and a party atmosphere.
San Diego Bay
More adventurous dads may appreciate forgoing the meal and enjoy the speed of a 30-minute zip around San Diego Bay in a turbocharged jet boat. This isn’t the average harbor tour; it’s a thrill ride of 360-degree turns and spinning on a dime.
Cloud 9 Living
Dads may have come to expect gift certificates on their special day, but how many are gifted with an adventure? Dad will love the selection available at Cloud 9 Living. He can take a flight in a vintage aircraft, race a Lamborghini, or go on a romantic gondola cruise. There’s something for every type of father, from a relaxing brunch cruise to a death-defying leap from an airplane. But be warned: The budget for these adventures varies greatly, from the down-to-earth to the stratospheric. But who can put a price tag on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure?
Velocity Paintball Park
For the active dad who would rather participate than observe, may we suggest a game of paintball? Velocity Paintball Park is located on a beautifully wooded area in Ramona. Its 14 play areas offer a variety of terrains and obstacles from which to choose. Your dad can engage with as few or as many people as he desires, as the park offers private bookings for family groups or walk-in play.
No matter where your dad celebrates his special day, whether on the road with family or relaxing at home, we would like to take this opportunity to wish him, and his many counterparts, our heartfelt best wishes.
